Stage one (2002 - 2007)

  • Formative research on tobacco use, perceived harm, and doctor's cessation efforts
  • Development of culturally appropriate tobacco cessation materials and approaches
  • Cessation education and brief intervention proof of concept feasibility studies

Stage two: (2007 - present)

Four areas of ongoing pilot intervention research

Medical school curriculum: Teaching modules for all subject areas

Cessation training and cessation clinics: Clinic cessation training materials and videos modeling brief clinic based interventions

Community outreach: Community based smoke free household movement plan and materials

Tobacco cessation materials: posters, guides, stickers, prescription pads, etc.
